John is a passionate community advocate, who has worked to improve the lives of residents across Durham Region for over 25 years.
Re-elected three times as Mayor of Clarington and Durham Regional Councillor, John has been a steadfast voice of reason to ensure people have the services and essential infrastructure they rely upon.
Having served as Chairman of Durham’s Finance and Economic Development Committee, John understands Durham’s complex economy that includes manufacturing, agriculture, education, small business and energy.
John currently serves as the Chair of the Ontario Nuclear New Build Council and as a member of the Canadian Nuclear Summit. In these capacities, he advocates tirelessly for Durham’s energy sector and its importance to Ontario’s economy.
A successful Durham business leader, John is President and Chief Executive Officer of Municipal Solutions, a consulting, advisory and business development firm that finds infrastructure solutions for building trade contractors across North America.
John is committed to improving health, wellbeing and the local environment. He is a former Major Gifts Chair of Lakeridge Health Bowmanville and Chair of the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority. John also draws on his experiences as an internationally recognized competitive athlete to promote healthy living.
John has been nominated 3 times by Ontario Power Generation for the Canadian Urban Leader of the Year and in 2014 he received the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal for exceptional service to Canada for his work representing fusion internationally at the G-8 several times over 5 years.
John holds a BSC in Economics and Executive Masters in Municipal Management. He is also a Certified Human Rights Specialist.
John has two wonderful and successful daughters and lives in his hometown of Bowmanville
